Hanukkah Gift

In the religion of Judaism, numerous holy days and festivals are observed throughout the year, as with all other religions. The festival of Hanukkah (which takes its name from the Hebrew word for ‘dedication’) is an eight-day celebration of the miraculous re-kindling of the Temple menorah during the ancient time when the Maccabees rebelled against Antiochus IV. Although there had only been enough consecrated oil to keep the temple’s flame alight for one day, it had continued to burn long enough for more oil to be pressed and consecrated. Many Jewish families celebrate this holy week, and it is considered respectful to give your Jewish friends and family a Hanukkah gift.

One of the ways in which Hanukkah is popularly observed is in the lighting of a succession of candles in eight-candle holders known as ‘Menorah’s or ‘Hanukiyot’.  Starting with the lighting of one candle on the first night of the holiday, another candle is lit in addition every subsequent night until on the last there are eight concurrently ablaze. A beautiful and unique Menorah is a Hanukkah gift which is possible, and is sure to be greatly appreciated. Special foods are also eaten on the holiday, and these presented along with a new Menorah make a warm and caring statement.

A Ceramic Menorah, rich in artistic imagination and symbolism, is a work of art which makes a wonderful Hanukkah gift. Judaic symbols such as the Star of David, the dove symbolizing peace, and Mezuzah decorate many single candleholders, for use at the supper table or elsewhere around the home. The celebration of Hanukkah, also know as the Festival of Lights, is important to many who adhere to Judaism and its traditions and recognizing this in a personal gesture is important , whether you are also a follower of this or belong to a different faith.

Latkes, potato and egg pancakes fried in oil, are one of the festive foods eaten during Hanukkah. Arriving bearing delicious Hanukkah delicacies and a relevant tea-light are a great way to join in with the sense of spiritual kinship and gratitude which permeates Hanukkah. Gift candleholders will send the message that you greatly value the receiver, and will express your special consideration. Holidays such as this are a time in which people remember to express, using the universal language of giving, their appreciation of each other. With so many beautiful Menorah designs to choose from, you can find the perfect ones for your Hanukkah gifts.

Hanukkah’s commencement is on the 25th day of ‘Kislev’, a month which begins at various times during the late November to late December period. For this reason it occurs fairly close to the Christian holiday of Christmas. A Hanukkah gift is a much easier decision as the symbolism and rituals of the holiday suggest which Hanukkah gifts one should give, making the process of selection much simpler. Menorahs are made of various exciting materials, such as ceramics and metals, and there is thus a great variety of possible gift options within this seemingly limited category of gifts.
