Alexa's Angels
When we decided to add jewelry to our site, Alexa's Angels was chosen because it combined both quality and very attractive designs with inspirational messages that would enhance the gift for both the giver and the recipient. Alexa's Angels is a line of inspirational jewelry that was created in 1995 after the loss of a beloved husband and father to cancer. The creators, Sharon Bridges and Beth Lang, sought to encourage those dealing with cancer and other life challenges. Named for Beth's daughter, Alexa, the original Alexa's Angels pins were named "Hope", "Joy", "Friendship", etc. and each was accompanied with a short message of encouragement. Today, Alexa's Angels has evolved into an extensive line of inspirational jewelry including Prayer Box bracelets, Love Charm, From the Heart, and Attributes of Life bracelets and necklaces. Founded in 1898 by a German immigrant named Adolph Gund, GUND became one of the first companies to design and produce teddy bears in the early 1900's. Gund was passionate about quality and having the GUND brand name carried on after his retirement when he sold the company in 1925 to another immigrant, Jacob Swedlin. Swdlin ran the company until 1969 when he passed it down to his daughter, Rita Raiffe, and her husband Herbert. Since then, the company has been run by three generations of the family. In 2004, the company's leadership passed to Jim Madonna, a non family member who had been with the company for a long time. The company invented a now trademarked "understuffing" technique for its line of plush animals that makes GUND products the most huggable plush in the world. As the years went by, the company developed other product safety standards such as devising a way to securely attach the button eyes on its plush animals to prevent small children from pulling them out and possibly swallowing them.
